As the chilly winds sweep across the city, Rock Paper Shotgun has decided to close up the treehouse and take a much-needed Christmas break. It’s impossible to sit comfortably in a treehouse during this time of year, after all. Surprisingly, our bosses believe January will bring warmer weather, so we will be back on January 2nd, 2024. Of course, I know myself well enough to predict that I’ll be writing the wrong year on documents for at least three months. But for now, I want to wish you a joyous holiday season and a well-deserved few days off. And don’t worry, we won’t leave you completely empty-handed during our absence! We have some exciting content scheduled for you while we’re away.

Before we head out, make sure to join us tomorrow at 1pm GMT for the big reveal of our Game of the Year 2023. While many of you have already guessed the winner, we still want to keep up the tradition of playing charades during this festive time. Trust me, it’s a fantastic game, and we’re eager to share our choice with you.

In case you weren’t satisfied with this year’s Advent Calendar, fret not! We have other options for you to delve into. Our RPS Selection Boxes, handpicked by our staff, consist of games that didn’t quite make it onto the calendar but are still worth checking out. Personally, I like to think of them as hon. menchies, and no one can stop me from using that term. Starting from the 26th, a new Selection Box will be available each day, giving you plenty of gaming recommendations to explore.

We also don’t want you to feel lost in time while we’re away. That’s why we have prepared a series of RPS Year in Review roundups. Remember Hi-Fi Rush? It feels like just yesterday, doesn’t it? Well, Ed has compiled a list of the Bestest Best reviews we had this year. Additionally, we have a selection of the best features and an intriguing perspective from our guides gang on what defined gaming in 2023.

To show our gratitude to our supporters, we have released a collection of Supporter-funded posts that everyone can enjoy. These posts will appear in the Latest feed as they unlock, but you can also find them and many other Supporter posts under the From The Archive tag. It’s a great opportunity to explore and discover content with a supporters’ touch.

Last but certainly not least, we have our annual Christmas Crackers filled with jokes that will leave you in stitches – or maybe just cringing. This year, we have truly outdone ourselves with the level of awfulness. I was personally embarrassed while scheduling them. You can expect a new cracker joke every day of our break, adding some levity to your day and putting things into perspective. One of the crackers involves a witty Star Trek reference, but I won’t spoil it for you.

As I write this, I’m traveling through time to schedule countless tweets about all the fantastic content awaiting you during our break. Meanwhile, I’m probably indulging in a piece of chocolate and pondering what lies ahead in 2024. Before I go, I’d love to hear what your game-related resolution for the new year is. Personally, I aim to “play more weird stuff,” as I do every year. So rest up, have a fantastic holiday season, and thank you for your continued support. See you in 2024 – just make sure not to be too hungover on January 2nd!
