The company took proactive action by banning more than 1.9 million accounts without users having to report any policy violations. In addition to taking proactive measures, WhatsApp also responded to user grievances. The platform received and addressed over 8,000 grievances from users in India during the same month. These grievances were related to various issues, such as account assistance, accessing features, service feedback, and denied requests for banned accounts. WhatsApp ensures prompt and efficient support for its users, aiming to provide a seamless messaging experience.

WhatsApp’s actions align with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules (2021) in India. As stipulated by these regulations, WhatsApp collaborates with its users through multiple channels. Users can report accounts by emailing grievance_officer_wa@support.whatsapp.com or by mailing the Grievance Officer in India. This demonstrates WhatsApp’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

While users have the ability to report accounts, WhatsApp also employs on-platform abuse detection systems. These systems proactively identify policy violations, enabling the company to take swift action against offending accounts. This approach is essential to maintain a secure and trustworthy environment for all WhatsApp users.

WhatsApp prides itself on its speedy resolution of user grievances. In November 2023, the company received 8,841 grievances and complied with 8 orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee during the same month. This demonstrates WhatsApp’s dedication to addressing user concerns and maintaining the platform’s integrity.
