Final Fantasy 14 fans have something to look forward to as the game’s next expansion, Dawntrail, is set to launch in early access on June 28th. The full release is scheduled for July 2nd, as announced by producer Yoshi P at PAX East. However, the timing of the release date has raised some eyebrows due to its proximity to another RPG expansion.

Yoshi-P didn’t shy away from addressing the elephant in the room – Elden Ring’s Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion is set to release on June 21st, just a week before Dawntrail. In a candid moment on stage, Yoshi-P revealed that the team had initially wanted to release Dawntrail a week earlier but decided to give players some time with the Elden Ring DLC first.

It’s refreshing to see a game developer like Yoshi-P openly acknowledge and even embrace competition from other games. Despite his own excitement for Dawntrail, he made it clear that he understands the appeal of Elden Ring’s DLC and wanted players to have the opportunity to enjoy both. This level of transparency and respect for other developers is commendable in the gaming industry.

While some may see the release date decision as strategic, Yoshi-P’s genuine enthusiasm for gaming shines through. His willingness to share his admiration for other games, such as Blizzard’s titles, and his openness to the idea of crossovers demonstrate a true passion for the medium. It’s evident that Yoshi-P is not only a developer but also a gamer at heart.

As a newcomer to the Final Fantasy series, I may not have the deep lore connections that devoted fans possess. However, I can appreciate the excitement surrounding new expansions and the dedication of developers like Yoshi-P to their craft. The upcoming release of Dawntrail promises to be an exciting time for Final Fantasy 14 players, and with Yoshi-P at the helm, the future looks bright for the game.
