EA has recently denied claims made by industry insider Jeff Grubb regarding the cancellation of Dead Space 2 remake. According to IGN, EA stated that there is “no validity to this story.” This contradicts Grubb’s earlier claims that EA Motive was working on a remake of the 2011 sequel before shelving it indefinitely due to underwhelming sales.

Grubb had previously mentioned during an episode of Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings that EA Motive had reached the pre-production phase for a Dead Space 2 remake. However, EA’s denial indicates that the sequel was not even considered for development, despite the relative success of the first remake in EA’s eyes.

The decision to halt the Dead Space 2 remake supposedly stemmed from the “lacklustre sales” of the original Dead Space remake. Grubb mentioned that the project was put on hold because of this reason, leading to disappointment for fans who were anticipating the sequel.

The alleged shelving of the Dead Space 2 remake coincides with EA Motive shifting its focus to the Battlefield series after the release of Battlefield 2042. The remainder of the studio is said to be working on an Iron Man game, making the two projects the sole focus of the developers for the time being.

EA had conducted a survey last year following the release of the Dead Space remake to gauge player interest in a remake of Dead Space 2. The survey also inquired about interest in a remake of Dead Space 3, which deviated from the horror roots of the series with its action-oriented gameplay and added co-op multiplayer. The lukewarm response may have contributed to the decision to cancel the sequel remake.

Despite the cancellation of the Dead Space 2 remake, the original Dead Space remake was well-received by critics. It was praised for its improvements and enhancements while staying true to the original game’s atmosphere. Reviewers described it as a “luxuriously improved” version of the horror classic, showcasing the care and attention to detail put into the remake.

EA’s denial of the Dead Space 2 remake rumors contradicts earlier reports from industry insiders. The reasons for the alleged cancellation remain unclear, but it appears that player interest may have played a role in the decision. Fans of the Dead Space series may be disappointed by the news, but the reception of the original remake indicates that there is still potential for revisiting the franchise in the future.
