Asus to Support Microsoft’s Dynamic Lighting Feature in Windows 11

Asus, a leading manufacturer of motherboards, is gearing up to support Microsoft’s new Dynamic Lighting feature in Windows 11. This feature allows users to control the RGB lighting on their motherboards without the need for a separate app. By partnering with Microsoft, Asus is working on beta BIOS updates for their AMD 600 and Intel 700 series motherboards to integrate Dynamic Lighting support.

Microsoft introduced Dynamic Lighting to Windows 11 in September, marking the first time that native RGB lighting controls are available within the operating system. Users can now manage the RGB lights on their motherboards using the HID LampArray standard. Companies like Acer, HP, HyperX, Logitech, Razer, and Twinkly have also joined forces with Microsoft to incorporate Dynamic Lighting support into their products.

To enable Dynamic Lighting on Asus’ latest motherboards, users will need to install a BIOS update. While a beta version is currently available on Asus’ forums for both AMD and Intel boards, caution is advised when flashing beta BIOS versions. It is essential to be prepared to revert to an older BIOS version in case any bugs or issues arise during the update process.

Once the BIOS update is successfully installed, users can control the brightness, colors, and lighting effects of their motherboards through the Settings section in Windows 11. While the current lighting controls may be basic, they eliminate the need for Asus’ Armory Crate tool and allow users to utilize native RGB controls within the operating system. This also means that third-party RGB controller software like OpenRGB may not be necessary, unless users require additional functionality.

In addition to enabling Dynamic Lighting support, the beta BIOS updates for Intel Z790 motherboards include a microcode update that addresses some of Intel’s game crashing issues. This update is a significant improvement that enhances the overall performance and stability of the motherboard.
