Factorio’s Space Age expansion has been highly anticipated for several years now, and fans are thrilled to finally have a release date. Scheduled to launch this October, the expansion will come alongside a major 2.0 update for the popular factory-automating game.
The Space Age expansion introduces five new planets, each with its own unique resources and technologies. Players will have the ability to build space platforms after completing the original game’s levels. These platforms will need to be defended from asteroids, which can be either shot down or refined into valuable resources. Additionally, operational platforms will facilitate cargo transportation between planets.
One of the new planets, Vulcanus, features Tungsten for advanced metallurgic technology and lava that can be used to smelt iron and copper. Fulgora, on the other hand, is a desolate planet plagued by lightning storms that can be harnessed for electrical power. The planet also holds remnants of a lost civilization that can be excavated and repurposed into new items. Gleba is a swampy planet abundant with fruit and biochemicals. The fifth planet remains a mystery, promising unique gameplay set in a dark and cold landscape.
In addition to the new planets, the expansion includes elevated train tracks for traversing difficult terrain and transporting goods. Players will also encounter new enemies and defensive mechanisms to protect their assets. Quality tiers have been introduced for items, entities, and equipment, offering various bonuses as they progress through five levels from Normal quality to Legendary.
Overall, the Space Age expansion promises a wealth of content comparable in size to the original game, taking approximately 80 hours to complete for veteran players. Despite the $35 price tag, which is on par with the base game, the substantial amount of content seems well worth the investment.
For those hesitant about the expansion’s price, Factorio offers reassurance with a free download of the 2.0 update. Set to release on the same day as the expansion, the update brings a range of new features, including an improved fluid system, remote view capabilities, enhanced train controls, combinator upgrades, and worker robot AI improvements.
Both the Space Age expansion and update 2.0 are expected to launch on October 21st, in line with Wube’s initial release estimate from last year.
Factorio’s Space Age expansion and 2.0 update offer an exciting array of new content and features for players to explore and enjoy. With a diverse range of planets, technologies, and challenges, the expansion is sure to provide countless hours of engaging gameplay for both new and veteran players alike.
