Google Meet, one of the leading video conferencing platforms, is now offering users the ability to touch up their appearance before meetings with the introduction of portrait touch-up filters. This feature was initially launched on mobile devices last year and has now been extended to Google Meet’s web app.
Users can choose from two different filters: subtle and smoothing. The subtle filter provides a “very light” complexion smoothing, under-eye lightening, and eye whitening effect, while the smoothing filter amplifies these effects slightly. Unlike filters on platforms like Snapchat, Google Meet’s filters aim to provide a more natural look by applying lighter effects that are not as drastic.
To use the touch-up filters, users can navigate to the Apply visual effects setting in Google Meet and select Appearance. From there, users can toggle Portrait touch-up on or off and choose their preferred filter. This feature is now available for paid users on specific plans, including Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, and more. Google One and Google Workspace Individual subscribers will also have access to portrait touch-ups.
While Google was a bit late in introducing face filters for video conferencing, competitors like Zoom and Microsoft Teams have already implemented similar features. However, Google Meet’s approach seems to focus on providing subtle enhancements rather than drastic changes to users’ appearances.
Google Meet’s introduction of portrait touch-up filters for its web app users offers a convenient way to enhance one’s appearance before virtual meetings. The availability of different filter options and the emphasis on subtle effects set Google Meet apart from its competitors in the video conferencing space. Overall, this new feature adds a touch of polish to the user experience on Google Meet.
