Google Messages, the RCS-powered messaging app, has recently introduced a new feature: message editing. This feature has been highly anticipated since it was first rumored in December 2023. Beta testers are currently testing this feature, indicating that Google is in the final stages of deploying it worldwide in the near future.

According to reports, message editing is now available in the latest beta version of the Google Messages app. Beta testers who are part of the Google Play Store beta programme can now edit messages after they have been sent. However, there is a limitation to this feature – it will only work if the recipient also has the same beta version of the app installed on their device.

Users can access the message editing feature by long-pressing the message they want to edit and clicking on the new pencil icon added by Google. This action opens up a new text box where the original message is displayed and can be modified. Once the edits are complete, users can tap on a checkmark icon to confirm the changes, which will then be visible to the recipient. Additionally, Google is providing an edit history feature that allows all participants to view the original messages and track multiple edits made to the same message.

A tipster on X (formerly known as Twitter) confirmed that there is a 15-minute time limit for making edits. This time limit is similar to WhatsApp’s editing feature, although there were initial claims that it might be extended to 30 minutes. The introduction of a time limit ensures that users are able to make timely corrections to their messages before they are received by the recipient.

Despite the current testing phase, Google has not yet provided a timeline for the global roll-out of the message editing feature. This feature is expected to be widely available to all users in the coming weeks. Google’s commitment to user experience and communication efficiency is evident in its continuous efforts to enhance the messaging capabilities of Google Messages.

The introduction of the message editing feature in Google Messages is a significant milestone that will undoubtedly improve the overall user experience and communication efficiency. This feature, along with the edit history functionality, provides users with greater control over their messages and ensures accurate and effective communication. Google’s ongoing commitment to innovation and user satisfaction is evident in its continuous efforts to introduce new and valuable features to its messaging app.
