Instagram has recently introduced an exciting new feature for its users called Video Notes. This feature, which was unveiled a year ago, allows users to share short looping videos with their followers. Additionally, the social media platform is also testing a new privacy feature that would give users control over who can see their Likes on posts and reels.
Sharing Video Notes
The Video Notes feature is an extension of Instagram’s previous status update feature, similar to WhatsApp’s statuses. Initially, users were only able to upload text or emojis as their status update. However, with the introduction of Video Notes, users can now share a two-second looping video. These video Notes can be shared with both mutual followers and users on their Close Friends list. Similar to Instagram Stories, the video Notes will be visible for 24 hours.
Recording Options and Customization
To share a video Note, users need to record a video in real-time using the front-facing camera on their device. Unfortunately, existing videos from the camera gallery cannot be used for this purpose. Before sharing the video Note, users have the option to add a text caption and music to enhance their content. Additionally, users can customize who can view their Notes by selecting between their Mutual Followers or Close Friends list.
One of the exciting aspects of Video Notes is the ability to receive interactive responses from viewers. Users can not only reply to a Note with text but also with audio, photos, video, gifs, and stickers. When someone reacts to a Note, whether with text, audio, or any other form of response, it will be sent to the user as a direct message.
It is important to note that when a user shares a video Note via Direct Messages, the thumbnail of their profile on the viewer’s page will change from their profile picture to the shared video. This adds a unique touch to the user’s profile and makes it easily recognizable for the recipient.
New Privacy Feature
In addition to the Video Notes feature, Instagram is also testing a new privacy feature that would allow users to control who can see their Likes on posts and reels. Screenshots shared by a user named Hammod Oh (@ihammod_oh) suggest that this feature is currently being tested and may be rolled out in the near future.
Instagram’s introduction of Video Notes provides users with an exciting new way to express themselves and connect with their followers. The ability to customize and receive interactive responses makes this feature even more engaging. Additionally, the upcoming privacy feature regarding Likes on posts and reels shows Instagram’s commitment to user privacy and control. As Instagram continues to innovate and introduce new features, it will be interesting to see how users embrace and utilize these tools to enhance their Instagram experience.
