Instagram is constantly looking for ways to improve user engagement and interaction on its platform. One of the latest features being tested is called “Blend”, which aims to create a more private and personalized Reels feed for users to share with their friends.

“Blend” is essentially a combined Reels feed that showcases recommendations based on Reels that you have shared with a specific friend or connection. This new feature is designed to tap into the user behavior of sharing Reels via direct messages, as Instagram has noticed an increase in private sharing compared to posting on the main feed.

Instagram has been working on a variety of new features to encourage private sharing on the platform. These include Inbox Notes, which highlights chat prompts from connections at the top of the DM inbox, Channels for one-to-many messaging, and Collections for collaborative interaction around selected posts in a group feed. Additionally, users now have the option to share feed posts with Close Friends only.

The introduction of “Blend” could provide a more tailored approach to content aggregation on Instagram. With more users sharing memes and clips with their friends, this new feature could enhance the in-app experience by making content discovery a group activity. By offering personalized Reels recommendations based on shared interests, Instagram is aiming to create a more engaging and interactive platform for users.

While the concept of “Blend” seems promising, there is no guarantee that it will be successful. Instagram is constantly testing new features to enhance user experience, and not all of them end up being permanent additions to the platform. Only time will tell if “Blend” will become a popular feature among users or if it will fall short of expectations.
