League Of Geeks, the Australian developers known for their fantasy strategy games like Armello and Solium Infernum, have recently announced that they will be going into hibernation. After over 13 years of being an independent studio, they have decided to take an extended break due to the current economic situation in the gaming industry. They mentioned that most of their team members have moved on to new opportunities, and the remaining staff will be taking a well-deserved break in the coming months. The future of the studio remains uncertain, with no clear timeline on whether they will revive it or not.

Solium Infernum, a game released earlier this year by League Of Geeks, received strong reviews but did not perform well in terms of sales. This led to funding issues for further development or DLC. The studio had already encountered difficulties in 2023 when they halted the development of Jumplight Odyssey and had to let go of half of their team. Rising operating costs, a weak Australian dollar, and poor sales were some of the reasons cited by League Of Geeks for their struggles. The launch of Solium Infernum was seen as a last-ditch effort to secure the studio’s future, but unfortunately, it did not yield the desired results.

Jumplight Odyssey, the early access spaceship colony sim being developed by League Of Geeks, has also faced setbacks. The studio has not been able to secure the necessary investment to continue the development of the game. As a result, they have decided to release Jumplight Odyssey out of Early Access within the next 12 months without the fully realized v1.0 version that was initially planned. This decision reflects the challenges that League Of Geeks has been grappling with in recent times.

League Of Geeks’ announcement of going into hibernation is a significant development in the gaming industry. The studio’s decision underscores the difficulties faced by independent developers in a competitive market. While the future of League Of Geeks remains uncertain, their contributions to the gaming community and the unique experiences they have crafted over the years will be remembered.
