Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, spoke out for the first time on Thursday regarding a strike in Sweden that could potentially impact new car deliveries. Postal workers in Sweden have stopped delivering to Tesla offices and repair shops in solidarity with a strike by the metal workers’ union, IF Metall. The strike arose due to Tesla’s refusal to sign a collective wage agreement. This action could potentially stall new Tesla cars from hitting the roads as license plates, issued by the Swedish Transport Agency, are only delivered via mail carrier Postnord.

In response to a Twitter user’s post about the strike, Musk simply described the situation as “insane.” It is indeed unreasonable that a labor dispute could prevent the delivery of new vehicles and inconvenience customers who have been awaiting their Tesla cars. The strike, initiated by 130 mechanics at 10 Tesla repair shops, has quickly expanded to include other repair shops and dock workers, impacting the smooth operations of Tesla across Sweden.

The strike has gained sympathy from multiple unions, including the Swedish Union for Service and Communications Employees (Seko) and the Swedish Building Workers’ Union. The support from various unions increases the pressure on Tesla to respond to the demands of IF Metall. However, despite these measures, the impact of the strike has been somewhat limited, according to several Swedish media reports.

IF Metall has accused Tesla of using strikebreakers to undermine the labor action and continue operations in spite of the strike. Such allegations raise concerns about the ethical practices of the company. It is crucial for companies to engage in fair negotiations and respect the rights of workers.
