Nintendo fans have something to look forward to in the coming years, as a follow-up movie to the highly successful Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently in development. With the original movie grossing over $1 billion at the box office, it was a no-brainer for Nintendo to greenlight a sequel. The next movie, set to be released on April 3rd, 2026, will once again be a collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment.

According to Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri, the new movie will feature a bright and fun story that expands on the world established in the first film. Illumination Studios Paris, the team behind the first movie, is currently storyboarding under the direction of Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. Animation is set to begin soon, with a planned release in the US on April 3rd, followed by a rollout in select territories throughout the rest of the month.

Aside from the Super Mario Bros. sequel, Nintendo has also announced a live-action Legend of Zelda film. Director Wes Ball, known for the Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will be at the helm of the project. With Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto on board as producers, fans can expect an exciting adaptation of the beloved video game series.

In addition to the movie news, Nintendo also shared updates on upcoming games. Fans of Paper Mario can look forward to a Switch remake of The Thousand Year Door, set to be released on May 23rd. Luigi’s Mansion fans will also have something to celebrate, with a remaster of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon coming to the Switch on June 27th. Furthermore, on March 12th, the Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy collection will be expanded to include Dr. Mario and other classic titles.

The future looks bright for Nintendo fans, with a new movie on the horizon and exciting updates to beloved gaming franchises. As the company continues to expand its entertainment offerings, fans can expect even more innovative and entertaining content in the years to come.
