The popular microblogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, recently encountered technical difficulties that left thousands of users unable to access the service. Reports of inaccessibility started pouring in around 11am, with users taking to a downtime tracking website to express their frustration. Not only were users unable to access X, but they also reported being unable to view any posts on the platform.

The issue was not limited to a few isolated incidents. Downtime tracking service Downdetector recorded over 67,000 reports of X being inaccessible. The Indian version of the website had an additional 4,800 reports with the same complaint. The significant number of reports suggests that the problem affected a large number of users across different regions.

Despite the overall inaccessibility of X, certain parts of the platform appeared to be functioning normally. For instance, the Trending topics section, which displays currently popular hashtags, continued to work. However, clicking on these topics revealed no posts, rendering the feed empty. The same issue persisted in the main timeline upon logging in. The Lists section also displayed the names of various lists but failed to load any posts, including those from high-profile users like Elon Musk, the platform’s owner.

While the main timeline and list posts seemed to be affected, Spaces, a feature allowing users to participate in audio conversations, continued to function as usual. Users could join discussions and hosts were able to manage speakers without hindrance. Additionally, direct messages remained visible and operated normally on the platform. However, when users received notifications for new tweets, they were unable to view the content upon clicking on the notification.

After nearly an hour of inaccessibility, X started functioning normally again around 12:10pm. Posts began displaying on all feeds, providing relief to frustrated users who had been unable to access the platform’s content.
