Threads, the popular messaging app, is finally answering the demands of its users with the introduction of a highly anticipated feature – Today’s topics. This new section will display the most engaging topics in real-time, thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Initially available to select users in the US, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that once refined, this feature will be rolled out globally in multiple languages.
Today’s topics is Threads’ response to Twitter’s former Trending page, designed to showcase the most talked-about subjects on the platform. Instagram Head Adam Mosseri sheds light on how this new feature functions, stating that the topics are determined by the app’s AI systems, analyzing user engagement in real-time.
Unlike its counterparts, Threads does not rely on hashtags or tags for its trending topics. Instead, plain text is used, eliminating the need for confusing or misleading hashtags. Combined with a heading and a top post discussing the topic, users can easily understand and engage with the subject matter.
Today’s topics find their place in two crucial areas of the Threads app – the search page and the For You feed. In the search page, the trending topics are displayed much like X’s Trending page. However, the layout of Threads’ version differs, with a focus on simplicity and user-friendliness.
In the For You feed, Today’s topics appear in a separate section presented as a carousel format. This design is reminiscent of the Threads posts section in the Instagram app, ensuring familiarity and ease of use for users. The heading and top post of each topic are displayed in small rectangular boxes, further enhancing the visual experience.
Threads also unveiled another recently tested feature – the ability to bookmark posts. Users can now save and revisit their favorite content, mirroring similar functionalities seen in Instagram and X. With this addition, Threads aims to offer a more comprehensive and user-centric messaging experience.
The introduction of Today’s topics to the Threads app marks a significant leap forward in prioritizing user engagement.
