The Chinese social media giant has revealed data showing that millions of people were targeted with content that aimed to “artificially amplify pro-Russian narratives” on the war.
According to TikTok’s report, fake accounts on the platform posed as news outlets and specifically targeted Ukrainian and Russian users, as well as individuals across Europe. These accounts strategically shared content that propagated false claims and narratives to influence public opinion. By pretending to be legitimate sources of news, these accounts manipulated viewers and amplified pro-Russian messages regarding the war.
The significant reach of these fake accounts is concerning. The report reveals that more than one million followers were collectively amassed by these accounts, despite their removal. The Investigation and Removal of Fake Accounts

Geographical Origin of Fake Accounts
TikTok’s investigation revealed that a vast majority of the identified fake accounts, approximately 13,000, were operated from within Russia. These Russian-operated accounts predominantly disseminated Kremlin war propaganda in local languages to several countries, including Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Serbia, Czechia, Poland, and Greece. However, the investigation also found that some of the identified fake accounts originated from within Ukraine itself, artificially amplifying narratives in support of raising money for the Ukrainian military.
