WhatsApp, known for its constant efforts to improve user experience, is reportedly working on a nearby file-sharing feature that utilizes Bluetooth connectivity for Android users. This feature, initially reported in January 2024, has been undergoing further enhancements before being rolled out in the beta version of the app.

Recent reports suggest that in addition to the file-sharing feature, WhatsApp is also developing a Favourites tab for its users. The Favourites tab aims to provide a convenient way for users to access their preferred contacts or conversations quickly. This new feature was detected in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.22 build, although it is not yet accessible to beta testers.

The People Nearby feature, located within the Settings menu, has been updated to provide users with detailed information on the permissions required for its functionality. These permissions include access to photos, media, files, Bluetooth, and location. By granting these permissions, users can discover and connect with nearby users for file-sharing without the need for internet connectivity.

The nearby file-sharing feature offers users a secure and efficient way to transfer files to other users in close proximity. With end-to-end encryption in place, user phone numbers remain hidden, ensuring privacy and security during the file transfer process. This feature can serve as a practical alternative to traditional methods of sharing large files over the internet, especially in scenarios where internet connectivity is limited or unstable.

WhatsApp’s upcoming file-sharing feature utilizing Bluetooth connectivity has the potential to greatly enhance the user experience by providing a seamless and secure method for transferring files. With additional improvements such as the Favourites tab on the horizon, WhatsApp continues to innovate and evolve its platform to meet the changing needs of its users. Stay tuned for further updates as these new features progress through beta testing and eventually become available to all users.
