WhatsApp for iOS has rolled out a new feature that allows users to create events within group chats. This feature was initially discovered in a beta version of the Android app by a feature tracker, but is now available in the stable version of the iOS app. The addition of this feature builds on previous updates, such as quick reply shortcuts for video notes and an in-app dialler for the Calls tab.

The arrival of the Event option in group chats was first noticed by a feature tracker known as WABetaInfo in WhatsApp for iOS app version 24.13.72. Previously, users were only able to create events in Communities, but can now do so within group chats. By tapping the “+” icon, users can access the activity menu and select Event. From there, they can input the event name, description, start time, and location if necessary. Additionally, users have the option to toggle the WhatsApp call link feature to initiate a call when the event begins.

This new feature is now available to all WhatsApp for iOS users. While Gadgets 360 staff members were able to access the feature after updating to the latest version, new features are typically rolled out gradually, so it may take some time for all users to receive it. In addition to this update, WhatsApp recently introduced Meta AI, an artificial intelligence chatbot, to various regions, including India. There are reports that users may have the option to choose between two AI models: Llama 3-70B and Llama 3-405B. The former is designed to provide quick responses, while the latter is Meta’s largest model with 400 billion parameters, although it has not yet been made available to the public.

WhatsApp for iOS continues to enhance the user experience by introducing new and innovative features. The ability to create events in group chats adds a new dimension to communication within the app, making it easier for users to organize and engage with others. As the platform evolves, we can expect to see more updates and improvements that further enhance the overall WhatsApp experience.
