According to the feature tracker, users will have the option to choose from five different themes – the default green theme, as well as blue, grey, red, and purple. It is important to note that setting the chat theme will only apply to the same phone and will not modify the theme in a chat for both users. This is unlike Instagram, where users can customize themes on a per-chat basis. The new chat theme picker is currently in development and is expected to be rolled out to beta testers on iOS in the future before it becomes available on the stable channel.
